The connection between cyber security and sustainability

While cyber security and sustainability may seem like unrelated fields, they share a fundamental goal – ensuring the long-term well-being and resilience of our societies. The interconnection between these two areas becomes evident when we consider the environmental impact of cyber attacks and the role of technology in promoting sustainability.

Cyber attacks not only disrupt critical infrastructure and services but also contribute to carbon emissions. The energy-intensive nature of cyber attacks, coupled with the increasing reliance on data centers and cloud computing, has a significant environmental footprint. By addressing cyber security challenges, we can reduce the environmental impact of cyber attacks and create a more sustainable digital ecosystem.

Furthermore, technology can play a pivotal role in driving sustainability initiatives. From smart grids and renewable energy solutions to data-driven insights for environmental conservation, technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach sustainability. By leveraging technology in a secure and responsible manner, we can accelerate progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The IFGICT International Seminar on Cyber Security & Sustainability aims to explore these connections and highlight the opportunities for collaboration between cyber security and sustainability professionals. By bringing together experts from both fields, the seminar will facilitate knowledge exchange, foster innovative thinking, and inspire new approaches to addressing common challenges.
