The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) is Mexico’s independent regulatory authority responsible for telecommunications and broadcasting. The institution oversees and regulates the country’s telecommunications sector, including mobile networks, internet services, broadcasting, and spectrum management.
Established following Mexico’s telecommunications reform, the IFT operates as an autonomous government body designed to promote competition, ensure efficient use of radio spectrum, and protect consumer rights in telecommunications services.
The institute performs several key functions, including:
Regulating telecommunications and broadcasting markets
Managing and allocating radio spectrum
Granting licenses and authorizations for telecom services
